UN condemns assault on 218 TV correspondent in Benghazi

The spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya condemns the attack on the 218 TV channel’s  correspondent in the city of Benghazi.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya said in a statement: “The United Nations Support Mission in Libya strongly condemns the attack on the correspondent of 218 TV Mabrouka Al-Mismari on February 12 in Benghazi while she was performing her duty.”

The reporter was physically and verbally assaulted by a group of people while she was performing her work duties, and her camera was broken during the accident.

The UN statement added: “A thorough investigation must be opened into such attacks and the perpetrators must be brought to justice.”

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called for “the protection of all journalists and media professionals across Libya so that they can perform their duties without fear.”
