Dbeibah renews rejection to hand over power, warns against war

Prime Minister Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba revealed the details of the “return of the trust to the people” plan, which is defined by four points that include holding parliamentary elections and ending with the adoption of a permanent constitution for the country.

The plan, which was announced by Dabaiba in a televised speech on Monday, included the formation of a technical committee to prepare the parliamentary elections law to be submitted to the High Council of State and then to the House of Representatives, in order to be approved, and if this is not possible, the Presidential Council is directed to approve it through a decree, and if the process of approving a law for parliamentary elections is disrupted. Law 2 of 2021 or Law No. 4 of 2012 will be used to implement it.

Dabaiba indicated that the parliamentary elections will precede the presidential elections, which will be held according to a constitutional rule, as they will be carried over until the referendum on the constitution according to the tenth constitutional amendment, which the next parliament will complete, warning that taking decisions by falsification and fraud means imposing war on Libyans, stressing that his hands are open to those who want peace, saying he will not accept that Libya be reduced to one or two people.

Al-Dabaiba added that the parliamentary elections can be held away from the obstacles of force majeure, and will end all the current bodies, including the current government, pointing out that if any party resorts to violence, his government will resort to electronic voting to complete the elections.

Dabaiba said he refuses to hand over power to chaos, reiterating his position in rejection of handing over power to an unelected government, and at the same time accusing his opponents of proposing a reckless path by performing a new play for forged legitimacy called granting confidence from a parliament that does not have constitutional jurisdiction.

He said that this path will lead to the return of division and war, pointing out that those who lead the movement to stir up political chaos are the same ones who came by force to Tripoli on the fourth of April 2019, calling on the parliament members to “listen to the people and liberate themselves from domination and control at the House of Representatives”.
