Between threats and calls for calm: International reactions to Russia’s attack on Ukraine

In response to the start of military operations in Ukraine, the US President said that the world will hold Russia accountable for this attack, noting that he will coordinate with NATO members to ensure a strong and unified response to Moscow’s moves.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war in the name of humanity, while the European Union demanded the same from Moscow.

China called on all parties around Ukraine to exercise restraint, and said that the situation was going through a critical moment, while Italy condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and described it as “unjustified”, and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi revealed that he is working with European allies and NATO for an immediate and united response to the current situation.

German Defense Minister indicated that the European Union and NATO are united on the position on Russia, pointing out that opportunities for dialogue with Russia still exist, and that it is not too late.
