NCHRL condemns kidnapping employees of Red Crescent in Benghazi

The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya has expressed its condemnation of the kidnapping and detention of employees of the General Secretariat of the Red Crescent, Rajab Al-Awami and Ahmed Al-Megrahi, by unknown persons.

The Commission added, in a statement, that it is following up with great concern the kidnapping of the two employees, and demanded the Benghazi Security Directorate and the Benghazi Public Prosecutor’s Office to open a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident, work to ensure their release, and ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted and brought to justice.

The Commission also expressed its full solidarity with the workers in the field of humanitarian work in the Libyan Red Crescent regarding this unfortunate incident, renewing its call to all parties to stop the systematic attacks and attacks targeting workers in the field of humanitarian, relief and medical work, and not to impede relief teams and humanitarian and medical aid, and to provide all facilities to cooperate with these institutions and avoid exposure to their work teams, as this constitutes a grave violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.
