Interior minister inspects Benghazi’s check points

Minister of Interior of the Interim Government in East Libya, Ibrahim Boshnaf, made a surprise visit to security patrols and check points based in Benghazi Tuesday night.

During his sudden tour, Boshnaf discussed the security challenges facing the forces in the city.

Boshnaf also praised the forces efforts to assure security and stability in the eastern city.

Last week, Abu Al-Qasim Kzeit, a member of the High Council of State (HCS), called on head of the Presidency Council Faiez Sarraj to visit Benghazi and witness how its citizens suffer due to the war against terrorism.

During a visit to Benghazi, Kzeit said the citizens of the eastern city live in destroyed buildings and rubbles that resulted from the war against terrorism alongside the lack of basic services.

Benghazi, Libya’s second largest city and the birthplace of the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi, has witnessed a three-year war Haftar and extremist militants.

In January, Libyan army spokesman Ahmed al-Mismari said the war on terror in Benghazi killed more than 5,000 soldiers.

“All the military operations in the city have ended, and terrorism has been eliminated after our forces fought battles from the Benina Air Base to Sidi Ekhrebish (central Benghazi),” Mismari said in a press conference.
