Lebanese Army reopens blocked roads, protesters express no rejection

The Lebanese Army started early Wednesday morning to reopen main roads that have been blocked by protesters to cut off routes between Beirut and other cities.

This came after a statement by the Lebanese Army command saying with respect to the rights of the protesters, it has to reopen roads amid complete stalemate in Lebanon that has been ongoing since October 17, when hundreds of thousands took to streets to topple the political elite that they called “stealing and corrupted.”

The protesters didn’t object to the reopening of roads by the Lebanese Army unlike previous attempts over the last days, when protesters rejected such a move. Yet, the protesters warned that they would block roads once again on Friday of the new mini-government is not announced with strong political and economic reforms.

The Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his resignation after “he reached a deadlock” saying “no politician is bigger than Lebanon as a nation.” The Lebanese president Michel Aoun urged Hariri and his government to remain as a caretaker government until a new one is announced.
