Italian medicine gives hope for COVID-19 patients

As the race intensifies to find a drug that suppresses the Coronavirus that swept the world in a few weeks, good news comes from Italy, which has become the second most affected country after China, from which the virus originated.

The director of immuno-oncology, Paolo Acierto, at the Pascal Hospital in Naples, confirmed that initial results indicated that the drug named Tocilizumab had an effective impact against the Coronavirus.

Although the Italian Medicines Agency has not yet given the green light to use the drug, scientists expect it to pass all the tests that would make it eligible for approval.

Italian newspaper “Quediano” reported that preliminary drug tests on a limited number of Coronavirus patients showed efficacy in improving patient health over the past 24 hours.
